The Gulf Coast Concert Band came to Waterside Estates on June 12th and performed a "Patriotic Theme Concert" in recognition of both Memorial Day and the upcoming July 4th festivities.

Starting with our National Anthem and culminating with the Stars and Stripes Forever, a medley of familiar Armed Service and marching band arrangements were performed by the band and featured solo numbers by Dr. Grady Hallman on the Euphonium, Mike Cascella on his Alto Saxophone and vocally by Devondra Harris.
A turnout of about 100 residents on the grass area and 100 residents in the pool could be heard humming and singing or just clapping their hands to the beat of all the old time favorites.
As a footnote, the 30+ piece Gulf Coast Concert Band is led by Maestro Ben Butler who is a Professor of Music at Texas Southern University. Some of his students over the span of his 23 year career have gone on to play in prominent orchestras and bands. The Band is very well known, and has been performing since 1974. It is composed of adults from all walks of life who enjoy playing brass, percussion and some wood-wind instruments. Many of the musicians also play with local professional and civic groups. Gulf Coast Concert Band performs at least one concert per month in the Houston Area.
