STORYLINE OF THE SHOW

Campus Thunder scored a smash, hit for. the fifteenth consecutive year.

On the first week-end in December, Mr D presented "Queen Of Diamonds" with music by Bill Pura, Ed Marfiak, Steve Martin, HARRY Ahlberag and Sime Neary.

The plat was built around a. Hoosier girl from Madison, Indiana, who comes to /New York looking for work as a secretary.

All H--- breaks loose when her information card gets too many holes punched in it and fouls up the electronic brain that matches the employee and employer.

Result…she gets tied up with a small time gangster who is out to steal a diamond necklace - the fabulous - Queen of Diamonds"!

Well-l-l now - our heroine will have none of that kind of hanky-panky. So-o-o-o she takes it on the lam to good old Indiana.

The owner of the agency (our Hero), who is out to curry favor with the gangster for the money involved…natch…follows her home and pitches woo at the County Fair. Our heroine nearly falls for the line until she discovers a heretofore unsuspected fiancι in the bascage. Since our Hero has failed to mention the matter, our Heroine naturally takes umbrage. SHE'LL SHOW EVERYONE!!

So-o-o it's back to New York and the caniving gangster.

Our Heroine of course, would never actually think of steeling a REAL necklace, SO-o-o she cooks up a plan to convince the gangster that she has by pretending to steal it but substituting a paste mock-up in its place. Thus she will convince the Hero that she is of real New York - Madison Avenue quality and flim-flaw the gangster at the same time.

BUT…The best laid plans, etc…. The gangster plans a double-cross on his colleagues and our Heroine finds herself accidently shanghaied and on her way to San Francisco. (Buy TWA Stock!)

A fortunate encounter with FIFI supplies her with the wherewithal to hop the next jet for New York arriving just in time to find that the gangster has got himself bumped off by a disgruntled minian who couldn't stomach the double-cross.

By a legal misunderstanding, she falls heir to a pile of scratch left to her in the gangster's will. Now that she has fame, fortune, and a career on Madison Avenue, is she happy?

Well-l-l now, The Hero (that lovable louse) is being married to his fiancι on Christmas Eve in Connecticut. (Look at NYNH&H Stock too).

So-o-o our Heroine accepts a wedding invitation and shows up at the wedding complete with the case of hiccups that adds life to the gay proceedings. The fiancι is miffed at the resulting donnybrook and walks out on the wedding.

At las-s-st the coast is clear and happiness reigns in a burst of light and melody as a living Christmas card Knocks them flat in the aisles…! Whew-w-w-w! Our Heroine, Abby, and our Hero, Kendrick, were ably portrayed by Liz Guzzi and George Sepe. Both are recent invites into the Knights of Thunder. Ed Frackman, another new Knight played the comedy lead, Angel, with ιlan. Giving a riotous performance opposite Ed, Cindy Gelbard, a candidate for Knighthood in the near future, as the comedienne Emma.

The show played to packed houses for three nights and a benefit performance on the fourth night for The Crippled Children Workshop.

The Cast Party at Eichner's was FABULOUS thanks to Bill Pura and Joseph Messineo.

Lasting Events and Memories
(Campus Thunder '61 - 15th Edition)
QUEEN OF DIAMONDS

Played two nights to S.R.C.; 1 night to 3/4 full house; 1 night to a 3/4 full house for a crippled children's benefit

Another year, another show and another anniversary - it was the gala fifteenth anniversary of Campus Thunder. To those old timers, we never figured that we would see the 15th show of Thunder, but we now look forward to our 25th anniversary year in 1971.

UB had now grown to a very big university so we had more to draw from when the casting call went up. A bigger, better show, cast-wise, and more money to spend, so it was also a more glittering extravaganza in costume and scenery. "The Queen of Diamonds" Al Dickason called his 1962 edition, centering around a mechanical push button machine that selects the right person for the right job. But in one case the machine does make a mistake and the wrong girl is selected to rob the famous Queen of Diamonds. The caper goes on with the traditional Fifi and her Thunderettes, to Al Dickason1 s home state of Indiana, back to New York and Connecticut, where it pokes fun of the bankrupt New York, New Haven and Hartford Railroad.

It was another first to add to our many first, for we had our first benefit. Vie play to a crippled children's benefit to a three-quarter's full house at $23.00 a person. The second act of the show far out played any previous Thunder show in the past six years. This year's final scene was dedicated to the gala coming season of Christmas. Departing from the usual finale, a hunting lodge was transformed into a beautiful Christmas card scene in a matter of seconds with a glitter or white and silver all done in white ana blue costumes.

John Scully took over thewonderful Knights program with a top cast party at Eichner's Restaurant. Our long list of old stand-bys backstage again were on hand for the fifteenth year: Gus Meyers at the orchestra pit; Adeline Meath at the piano; Bill Pura, Ed Marfiak, Steve Martin, Harry Ahlberg and Sime Neary at the music and lyrics end; Judy Blair as Choregrapher.

Sonig hits were "Untouchables"; "A Sentimental Tune", "Old Rocking Chair"; "Bras"; "Connecticut", and "The Mew York, New Haven and Hartford Line".

Leads went to George Sepe, Ed Frackman (making his final bow) ; Paul Rashap (one of the best Fifi's ever) Liz Gussi and Michael Walters.

There were many funny incidents that went along with this 15th yearly show.
