"LITTLE MIDGET TESSER"

(5th wooden anniversary edition)

Played four performances to sellout on three evenings---

One acre year has elapsed and the 5th "Wooden Anniversary" edition of the sliow billed as "The Biggest Yet" hit the Klein stage. Our budget was cut but improvement came all around with the first real musical with a plot written by Al Dickason and songs by Sime Neary, Steve Martin, Harry Ahlberg, Bob McCosker and Billy & Tesh Robbins. Junior Chamber of Commerce again for the third year sponsored the opening night with the Friday and Saturday performances sold out with the SRO sign up.

Prices were upped from $1.80 to $3.60 tops. Our Genie was played by Bill Jones. The first disappointment came when we heard that the star of the show, would not be back at the university. After a few calls to New Jersey, Joyce Mathewson was back in her role of midget tosser. It was now October 31st, when we all celebrated Joyce's 21st birthday party at the Little Theatre. Two weeks before the show Joyce fell and sprained her back, it was whispered around school that she would not be able to go on. Thanks to God Joyce was soon up and in her part again. Troubles came thick and fast then. It was learned that the male lead, Syd Karem (a distant relation of the King of Arabia) swallowed some glass and had to be operated on, but luck changed when he was at the dress rehearsal.

Fifi was again played by Frank Castellucci. Our biggest surprise came when the New York Times notified us that they would like to do a feature story with pictures on the fifth edition of Campus Thunder. A well known national radio program next gave us a tremendous plug.

Opening night saw us with a real New York opening, gigantic spot light shone on the Klein, formal clothes were worn by many, parties were held and WNAB broadcast interviews of guests from the Klein lobby on Opening night. According to many Campus Thunder '52 was the most lavish show to ever hit the city of Bridgeport. The closing of Act one really put the glare into the audience with mirrors shining in our eyes. Top scenes included Reno; Showboat; Underwater Ballet; and the Enchanted Garden with real rain falling on the stage in the final scene ( a wonder we had been waiting four long years to see, since Al Dickason thought of the idea back in 1948). Costumes and scenery were picked out by Mr. J. J. Shubert who for the second straight year attended the show.

The fifth cast party was held at Glorietta Manor and was enjoyed by all until the following morning when the entire cast began to become sick, due to the turkey they had eaten. The cry was "We can't go on", but like real troupers. Campus Thunder "52 closed to a huge success. Mr. Dickason was presented with a Coffee Grinder, Ice holder and Toaster by the cast and company. Publicity was again the most outstanding yet, with billboards, and posters in buses added to the range this year.
